DESCRIPTION:In 2023\, Maine became the 13th state to establish a paid leave program. Beginning in 2026\, eligible workers in the private and public sector will have up to 12 weeks of paid time off available to them for family or medical reasons including illness\, to care for a relative\, or for the birth of a child. \nOur speaker Reggie Parson currently serves as Deputy Director for the Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave Program (PFML). DESCRIPTION:Maine State Treasurer Henry Beck will be our guest\, sharing financial information of importance. He has a very successful and well-regarded monthly “By the Numbers” press release\, and radio appearances on WVOM. He will discuss these numbers\, and our region’s data.\n\nIn 2018\, Henry Beck was elected by a Joint Convention of the House and Senate as State Treasurer. Treasurer Beck’s public service began when he was elected to represent his neighborhood on the Waterville City Council in 2005. In 2008\, he was elected to the Maine House of Representatives representing parts of Waterville and Oakland during his senior year at Colby College. In the Legislature\, he was appointed House Chair of Joint Standing Committee on Insurance and Financial Services and to serve on the 2011 Commission to Apportion Maine’s Congressional Districts. Treasurer Beck attended the University of Maine School of Law and graduated on time while serving in the Legislature and practiced law prior to serving as Treasurer. He also holds an MBA from the Leonard Stern School of Business at New York University.\n\nThe Office of the Treasurer of State is established in Article V\, Part Third of the Constitution of the State of Maine. The core duties of the Treasurer’s Office are debt management\, cash management\, trust fund administration and unclaimed property administration. Other major tasks assigned to the Treasurer are directorships on many of Maine’s quasi-governmental debt issuing agencies and distributions under the Municipal Revenue Sharing Program.\n\nThis meeting is hosted by the Winthrop Lakes Region Chamber of Commerce in the Winthrop Commerce Center Conference Room \, 149 Main St.\, Winthrop\, Maine. Doors open at 7:15\, the session begins at 7:30. Light refreshments will be served.\n\nDirections: Follow the signs for Maine General / Winthrop Family Medicine / Winthrop Pediatrics\, and park in the lot behind the building. Using that entrance\, go past the front desk\, down the hall past the (not currently operating) Commerce Cafe\, and the conference room is the next door on the right.
